This project implements an environment where music is the primary agent defining interactions between users. Music evolves in this environment based on the musical preferences and encounters of users.
Users choose a music tag: a short mix of musical parts (for example, bass, drums, synth, and strings). They traverse a series of music spaces. When they enter a space, a new piece of music is created composed of strands of their musical selection woven together with strands of pieces associated with other users in that space.
This work is one application of concepts, algorithms, and software that have been in development for over a decade.
We describe a virtual, computer network-based implementation of this idea, although it could also be implemented in an actual physical space. |
